Johannesburg 10 September 2018. JSE-listed Altron welcomed 48 new graduates into the ICT world when it celebrated the awarding of Certificates in End User Computing to the graduates of its learning centre in KwaMashu, KwaZulu-Natal.
It is a great privilege to recognise the hard work, dedication and commitment of the students and instructors, said Mteto Nyati, Chief Executive of Altron. Through this programme, the students have been equipped with knowledge and skills that assure them of easier access to the modern working environment. The certificates, which are rated National Qualification Framework level 3, are the foundation for access to the workplace. The programme equips the learners with knowledge and skills in end-user computing so that they can use computers comfortably. These are vital skills that open doors into any work environment.
Some 50 learners, who were previously unemployed youth from the Inanda and KwaMashu townships north of Durban, began the programme at the Altron Learning Centre on 1 August 2017 and completed it on 31 July 2018. The fact that 96 percent of the learners who enrolled have graduated is testimony to the success of the learning centre, which is based at the Ntuzuma Teachers Training College in KwaZulu-Natal. These students are walking away with incredibly valuable technology skills and they all come from the Inanda and KwaMashu areas, added Mteto. Many are unemployed and the skills they have developed with this programme will open career doors for them in the future.
The learning centre, one of two operated by Altron, is an integral part of Altrons holistic commitment to supporting the youth, building skills and changing South Africa from within, and this is the fourth successive class to graduate. Our learning centres form part of our commitment from the private sector to reduce South Africa's unemployment challenges with a skills development programme that is relevant and needed. Altron is about doing good business by doing good and these centres, the people who drive them and the students who attend them, are the next generation of success for our country, concluded Mteto.
